Katie can perform fire solo, duo, trio or with her troupe of fire performers- the more performers involved the greater the variation in equipment and the bigger the show production value can be.

Fire FAQs:

What safety protocols do you provide?

A: Katie and her troupe provide fire extinguishers, safety fire blankets and fire buckets for hot equipment at every performance, all equipment is checked prior to fuelling before each performance.Fuel is stored securely.

What safety protocols do we need to supply?

A: ideally a designated performance area clearly marked off from the public. This can be done with barriers, signage or a combination of both. If sets are not continuous performers may need a suitable space for storing their equipment and fuels away from public access. Any other safety methods required by your venue can be arranged on site. Fo indoor shows the fire/smoke alarm should be isolated during and for a short time after the performance. All fire bookings require a designated performance area 3m away from the public.

What does a fire risk assessment involve?

A: The fire risk assessment is done in two parts, the first part will be provided by Katie after receiving your venue and event information. This will be emailed to you to send to your venue. On site Katie will carry out another risk assessment- if the initial one requires updating another brief edit will be done on site and emailed prior to beginning the fire performance. If the provided space is unsuitable then another area shall be suggested or alternative act offered.

Is the whole troupe insured for fire performance?

A: yes- the whole troupe carry PLI for fire performance. Insurance is covered upto £10 million with First Act.

Can we have a go?

A: unfortunately not on this one. This would invalidate our insurance.

Is it hot?

A: Contrary to surprisingly popular belief the fire is indeed hot. There is no such thing as 'cold fire'. When performing for younger audiences we do advise a safety warning be issued.

How do you not get burned?

A: we are very careful and professionally trained performers- in the event of a burn a burns kit is always carried and injuries to performers is outlined in the risk assessment. Provided the risk assesment is adhered to the chance of performers being burned is extremely low.

What happens if it rains?

A: Katie has a rule that "if guests will stand in it, she will perform in it"... if there is sideways rain the guests won't want to be standing in it rendering performance wasted. Heavy rain also causes ignition issues. In the event of adverse weather- wind, rain, below 0 celsius if an indoor fire performance is not possible then LED performance will be offered instead.

Do you use petrol?

A: No. Petrol is explosive which is why safety is key at petrol pumps. A range of specialist dry powders and fuels are used  along with gerbs, paraffin, lamp oil and gas.

Do you fire breathe?

A: Katie does not fire breathe. It is extremely harmful to the body and high risk, but other troupe members do and breathing can be included on request.
